Fraserburgh Beach Masterplan Wins Excellence in Plan Making at RTPI Scotland Awards

We are delighted to announce that the Fraserburgh Beach Vision & Masterplan project has been recognised with the Excellence in Plan Making Practice award at the recent RTPI Scotland Awards. This accolade is a testament to the huge collaborative effort and innovative thinking of the client, consultant team and community that has shaped this transformative project.

Thanks to Aberdeenshire Council

KMA’s team are profoundly grateful to Aberdeenshire Council client for the opportunity to work on such a great co-design commission. Particular thanks go to Paul Macari and Alastair Rhind, whose vision, support, trust and patience, were instrumental in guiding the development of the masterplan through its multiple stages.

RTPI Scotland and the Awards Judges

We are grateful to RTPI Scotland and their panel of judges for recognising the merits of the Fraserburgh Beach Vision & Masterplan. This Award underscores the contribution of thoughtful, inclusive planning can play in creating vibrant, sustainable and resilient communities. Your assessment and endorsement helps to validate the hard work of many over the course of the year-long project, and is much appreciated by all Finalists.

The Very Special Fraserburgh Community

Our team wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful community of Fraserburgh who contributed so much to this process and share in the recognition of the plan. Their active participation and local knowledge, alongside creative dialogue and insightful feedback, were all crucial in shaping and refining ‘their masterplan’. This project is a testament to the power of community engagement and collaboration in positive planning and co-design. The hopes, dreams, experiences and ideas, of the whole community are woven into the plan.

Celebrating the Project Team’s Dedication

Working alongside the client and community in Fraserburgh, KMA had a team that included Rim Chouaib, Emma Churchyard, Iain MacPherson, Kevin Murray, Gregor Henderson, Rob Thompson (RTU) and Ines Triebel (WMUD). This award reflects all their tireless efforts and long days translating diverse aspirations into real place possibilities.

Working in person in a post-Lockdown situation, each of our team member brought their unique expertise, creativity and passion to the table, ensuring that the co-design process was genuine and collaborative among the team, as well as with the community. This award is hopefully a validation of our commitment to excellence in such co-production and co-design.

Looking Ahead

While we celebrate this Award, we are full of anticipation for the delivery of the Fraserburgh Beach Masterplan over the coming years. Hopefully this award may inspire even more communities to pursue a community-facing, collaborative approach toward planning and design of their places.

Once again, thanks to all the contributing Brochers in Fraserburgh, to Aberdeenshire Council, to RTPI Scotland and the judges, and to our project team. Together we have hopefully created something rather special. Here's to the future well-being of Fraserburgh and many similar communities!
